Well…. I have been riled up for about a month. I was fortunate enough to have had full health insurance for the three years since my divorce and it ran out June 30. Yes, June 30 and it’s now well into July. If anyone had told me that I would be without health insurance you would have just had to say, “Slay Me!” Because you see, I am Canadian and just like there is the flag, apple pie and hot dogs on the 4th of July…. I have and have always had health insurance.
The situation is expected to FINALLY be remedied this week. I won’t tell you about the gyrations! I was in knots with anger, fear, outrage, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
When one friend suggested that we do an early morning desert meditation and another friend politely suggested that I don’t write the letter to the editor in my present state of mind. I took heed. I do, “THE WORK” so if I can’t get philosophical or spiritual or ZEN about this…. Probably a lot of people can’t either.
So let me tell you! I am grateful (After 14 days of Prayer Therapy) for this experience BECAUSE it gave me a reason to reflect on how I really feel what I need. How I am taking care of myself? What type of care would I want to consider should….
It took getting down on my knees to affirm that I AM Healthy, despite whatever category the insurance company had lumped me into. This experience allowed me to reflect on my beliefs about what I am eating, my care of Self – now and later in my life.
I am blessed. As always when I am going “through” one of these soapbox moments several women become present. My situation is minimal. The transition for taking care of Self after a divorce is like grieving a death or loss of a job. But I will tell you one thing…. You should not have to stay in a bad situation because you are afraid of losing your health insurance. AND you should not have to lose your business OR not be able to follow your dream because of the decision to have or not have health insurance!

These are the words we carry with us that are in grained in our psyche and somehow during our business day some of us (I would not want to speak for all of us) may temporarily lose the wisdom in these mother’s words.
Do unto others…. Are you coveting a job? Maybe not understanding what it takes for someone else to do their job. Lately even as I am working for myself I forget what it takes to allow someone else to help me. Have I given them everything that they need in order for them to do their job for me in the best and most efficient way possible?
Irritation, irrationality and ire result especially if someone has pride in their work. It can erode relationships and may be even cause a succinct dismissal of you and your dreams.
“Mercedes, SLOW DOWN” my mother use to tell me.
“Are you considering the other person?”
“Now, say it with a smile”
Even as I profess to be ZEN, the business urgency to have to get things done results in tension in my gut and then I KNOW am off center, it happens to the best of us.
I had an incredible conversation with my mom a few days ago and she said to me, “You have always had the ability to forge ahead, see the end result, not look left or right and then jump off of any cliff necessary, in faith, to get the job done. Have you stopped to consider that some of us may want to build a bridge?”
Slow down Mercedes, slow down!

Every now and then I come across examples of why we need to charge what we are worth and move towards an audience that can pay you. I ran across a webpage with the following description and fees for “intuitive design” work. Not exactly the way that I do it !
